Salman Haider is an award winning Cataloging & Metadata Librarian, Blogger and Online Social Media Expert. Coming from a Computer Science background Salman has functional expertise in Resource Description and Access (RDA), AACR2, MARC-21, Library of Congress Classification (LCC), and Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH). He has created RDA BlogLibrarianship Studies & Information Technology Blog, RDA Bibliography, and RDA Special Topics & Materials Blog to help himself in his professional responsibilities of cataloging of documents in various formats and keeping abreast with latest developments on Resource Description & Access (RDA), library cataloging, librarianship & information technology, and library & knowledge organization and management.

 

Salman Haider is a Graduate in Science (B.Sc.) with Computer Science, Mathematics, and Statistics from Lucknow University and completed his Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from Aligarh Muslim University with a First Class securing IInd Rank and the prestigious Gold Medal P.N. Kaula - S. Bashiruddin Gold Medal for Library Classification. He also achieved the Under Graduate Merit Scholarship and the Post Graduate Merit Scholarship in B.Lib.&I.Sc. and M.Lib.&I.Sc. respectively for meritorious performance.

 

Few people dream about becoming librarians when they are little, and he was one of the ones who did. He has the experience of working in some of the biggest, finest, and modern libraries on very responsible positions. Prior to his present job, he worked at the Indian School of Business LibraryNational Library of India, and Central Reference Library.

 

 

Job Description

 

  • Cataloging South Asian materials in all formats and all subjects with RDA (Resource Description and Access), LC-PCC PS, and MARC-21; previously with AACR2, Library of Congress Rules Interpretations, and MARC-21. Creating bibliographic and authority records using Exlibris Voyager and OCLC Connexion softwares.

 

  • Subject cataloging of titles in accordance with the Library of Congress Classification Scheme (LCC) and Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH). Assigning existing subject headings and classification numbers to new titles. Proposing new LCSH subject headings and LCC classification numbers to be added to official LCSH and LCC schedules.
